TITLE:Remote Network Engineer jobs – Full‑TimeSenior IT Engineer forRemote Networking & Cloud Infrastructure (Cisco, AWS, Terraform) – Pittsburg, California – CompetitiveSalary & Benefits --- Who we are We’re a midsized, client‑focused managed services firm that grew from a three‑person garage shop to a 120‑person team that supports over 300 enterprise customers across North America. In the past 18 months we added a new “Hybrid Cloud Connectivity” practice that now accounts for roughly 22 % of our recurring revenue and is projected to double by the end of the fiscal year. Our headquarters live in downtown Pittsburg, California, but more than 80 % of our staff work from wherever they have a reliable internet connection. Why this role exists now When the pandemic forced many businesses to rethink their network topologies, we saw a flood of requests for secure, zero‑trust remote access and for seamless migration of on‑premises LANs into public‑cloud VPCs. Our existing network team, which was largely focused on legacy data‑center switches, is at capacity. To keep up with the demand — and to avoid over‑promising on service‑level agreements (SLAs) that have a 99.9 % uptime target for our customers’ VPN tunnels — we need a seasoned network engineer who can design, automate, and troubleshoot hybrid environments while mentoring the junior staff who just joined the “Cloud Connect” squad. The team you’ll join You’ll sit in the “Network Architecture & Automation” pod, currently made up of: * 2 senior network engineers (including the manager you’ll report to) * 3 junior network specialists who are still learning the ropes with Ansible and Terraform * 1 solutions architect who translates sales opportunities into technical designs Together we manage roughly 4,500 network devices across 120 customer sites, monitor traffic through 6 different NOC centers, and handle an average of 350 network incidents per month, with a mean time to resolution (MTTR) of 4.2 hours — a figure we’re constantly hunting to improve. What you’ll be doing – day in the life * Design & Architecture – Take ownership of end‑to‑end network designs for clients moving workloads to AWS or Azure. This includes sizing VPCs, configuring Direct Connect or ExpressRoute, and drafting high‑level diagrams that are later broken down into device‑level configurations. * Automation & IaC – Write reusable Ansible playbooks and Terraform modules that provision Cisco IOS‑XE, Juniper JunOS, and Arista EOS configurations across on‑prem and cloud environments. You’ll also contribute to our internal NetBox inventory to keep our CMDB accurate. * Troubleshooting & Incident Response – When a customer’s site loses connectivity or a VPN tunnel flaps, you’ll be the one digging into packet captures with Wireshark, correlating logs in Splunk, and driving the root‑cause analysis. Our SLA demands we restore service within 30 minutes for critical incidents, so speed and accuracy matter. * Mentorship & Knowledge Sharing – Pair up with the junior engineers for code reviews, run “lunch‑and‑learn” sessions on BGP best practices, and help codify our network standards in a living wiki.* Security Hardening – Implement zero‑trust segmentation using SD‑WAN policies, configure firewalls (Palo Alto and Fortinet) for least‑privilege access, and work closely with the InfoSec team to ensure compliance with SOC 2 and ISO 27001. * Performance Monitoring – Set up alerts in Nagios and SolarWinds for latency spikes, jitter, and packet loss. You’ll also produce monthly dashboards that show capacity trends and make recommendations for upgrades before they become bottlenecks. * Vendor Liaison – Manage relationships with Cisco, Juniper, and cloud providers. When you need a firmware patch or a special licensing arrangement, you’ll be the point person driving that conversation. Tools you’ll get to play with (we love variety) 1. Cisco IOS‑XE / IOS‑XR 2. Juniper JunOS 3. Arista EOS 4. Amazon Web Services (AWS) VPC & Direct Connect 5. Microsoft Azure Virtual WAN & ExpressRoute 6. Ansible (network modules) 7. Terraform (cloud & on‑prem providers) 8. Wireshark for packet captures 9. Splunk Enterprise for log aggregation 10. Nagios Core for alerting 11. SolarWinds NPM for performance monitoring 12.NetBox for IPAM/DCIM We’ll also give you access to a sandbox environment where you can spin up virtual routers on GNS3 and test configurations before they go live. Success metrics – how we’ll know you’re winning * MTTR Reduction – Cut the average incident resolution time from 4.2 hours to under 3 hours within the first six months. * Automation Coverage – Increase the proportion of network changes performed via Ansible/Terraform from the current 38 % to at least 60 % by year‑end. * Customer Satisfaction – Boost our Net Promoter Score (NPS) for networking services from 68 to 75, measured quarterly.* Mentorship Impact – Have at least two junior engineers achieve “Senior Network Engineer” certification (CCNP/CCIE or equivalent) under your guidance within 12 months. Who you are – the human behind the résumé * Experience – 5–8 years in network engineering, with a solid track record of designing and managing multi‑site LAN/WAN architectures. Hands‑on experience with Cisco and Juniper gear is non‑negotiable; experience with Arista or other switch platforms is a plus. * Automation mindset – You’ve written at least one production‑ready Ansible playbook or Terraform module, and you understand why “Infrastructure as Code” matters for repeatability and compliance.* Certifications – CCNP (or higher) and either AWS CertifiedAdvanced Networking – Specialty or Azure Network Engineer Associate. Not a requirement, but it signals you’re serious about the craft. * Communication – You can translate a complex BGP loop‑prevention strategy into a two‑sentence email for a non‑technical stakeholder, and you enjoy writing clear run‑books that future engineers can follow. * Problem‑solver’s heart – You thrive when a customer’s site goes dark at 2 a.m. and you have to pull packet captures, trace the route, and get them back online before the morning stand‑up.* Team player – You’re comfortable sharing your screen in a Zoom call, walking a junior through a NetBox entry, and giving constructive feedback without sounding patronizing. A human moment > “I still remember the first time I helped a client re‑establish a VPN after a thunderstorm knocked out their ISP. We were sprinting through logs, and the junior engineer on the call was nervous. I told her, ‘It’s just a puzzle; we’ll piece it together one packet at a time.’ By the end of the hour, she was the one presenting the solution.Moments like that keep me excited about remote networking.” – Priya,Senior Network Engineer, Pittsburg, California What we offer * Remote‑first flexibility – Work from anywhere in the US, but we still schedule a quarterly “team‑in‑person” day in Pittsburg, California for bonding and hands‑on labs. * Competitive compensation –Salary range $115,000–$145,000 USD, plus a performance‑based bonus that can reach 15 % of base. * Benefits – Medical/vision/dental, 401(k) match up to 5 %, 12 paid days off, and a stipend for home‑office upgrades (up to $1,500 per year).* Professional growth – We fund certifications, provide a $2,000 annual learning budget, and give you time each sprint to explore new tech in a “sandbox Friday.” * Culture of transparency – Quarterly all‑hands where leadership shares key metrics (revenue, churn, NPS), and a public “issue board” where any employee can raise ideas for process improvements. 1. Submit your updated résumé and a short (max 300‑word) cover letter describing a challenging network incident you resolved remotely. 2. If we feel you’re a fit, you’ll meet with our hiring manager (30‑minute video chat), followed by a technical screen with a senior engineer (live troubleshooting of a sample BGP scenario).3. Successful candidates will receive a take‑home assignment that mirrors a real‑world automation task (you’ll have 48 hours to complete it). 4. Final interview: a conversation with a member of our leadership team and a brief cultural fit discussion. We aim to move swiftly, so if you’re excited about shaping the future of remote networking for a growing client base, hit “Apply” today. * We are an equal‑opportunity employer and welcome applicants of all backgrounds. Our remote‑first policy means you can thrive from wherever you call home, but we do love seeing a familiar face from Pittsburg, California at our quarterly meet‑ups.* Apply tot his job
