Senior Grant Writer, Healthcare & Public Sector, End-to-End Ownership
I’m seeking an experienced, highly self-sufficient grant writer to support grant strategy and delivery across healthcare, human services, and public sector–adjacent organizations. This role is designed for someone who can independently own the full grant lifecycle, from opportunity identification through submission, while working within a structured consulting-led delivery model. You would collaborate closely with me as the strategic lead, contributing grant expertise across multiple engagements rather than supporting a single organization in isolation. The right person is comfortable operating with limited direction, translating complex operational realities into strong grant narratives, and exercising professional judgment around fit, risk, and prioritization. Context and Work Environment The organizations supported through this work are typically small to mid-sized, mission-driven, and operating in regulated or compliance-heavy environments. Many provide healthcare, clinical, social services, or other public-facing services and pursue funding from a mix of federal, state, local, and private foundation sources. Engagements vary in size and complexity, some are discrete grant submissions, others involve ongoing pipeline development or repeat submissions over time. Scope of Responsibilities • Identify and assess grant opportunities aligned with organizational capabilities • Conduct fit analysis and provide clear go/no-go recommendations • Lead development of grant narratives, including need statements, program descriptions, and impact articulation • Draft budget narratives and align financial storytelling with provided inputs • Ensure compliance with funder requirements and submission guidelines • Coordinate required attachments and supporting documentation • Manage submission timelines and light post-submission tracking What I’m Looking For • 7+ years of professional grant writing experience • Demonstrated success securing grant funding, quantified results strongly preferred • Experience with healthcare, human services, or public sector–adjacent organizations • Ability to work independently and manage ambiguity without constant oversight • Familiarity with federal and state grant portals, as well as foundation funding ecosystems • Strong writing, organization, and analytical skills • Sound judgment around feasibility, positioning, and risk Engagement Structure • Work is delivered collaboratively through a consulting-led model • I serve as the primary engagement lead and point of coordination • You contribute grant expertise as part of that delivery, with ownership over execution • Scope may be hourly or project-based depending on grant complexity • Opportunity for ongoing work if the collaboration is a strong fit What This Role Is Not • Not entry-level • Not research-only • Not commission-only • Not high-volume, template-driven writing To Apply Please include: • A brief summary of your grant writing experience • Examples or summaries of funded work (no confidential information required) • Types of organizations or funding sources you’ve worked with • Your preferred engagement structure (hourly or project-based) Apply tot his job
