The candidate will be responsible for leading purification and powder process development, optimization, and implementation. TheSenior Engineer will also lead new technology development efforts in purification, powderization, formulation and deployment.This role reports to the VP of Engineering. Responsibilities include:• Independently planning purification- and powder-related engineering projects on multi-month time scales based on company initiatives and ensuring smooth workflow, balancing technical excellence with rapid timelines• Supervising, scoping, and drafting study designs across purification and powder engineering projects with a focus on developing success criteria and project direction• Generating high quality slide decks to present purification and powder development progress and research results• Authoring and reviewing standard operating procedures (SOPs) for equipment operation and technology transfer, and facilitating scale up from bench to pilot for new processes• Drives initial demonstration of new technology and equipment platforms for purification, drying and powder processing• Collaborates with others in capital projects during front-end design (URSs, PFDs, M&E Balances), PHAs, design reviews, commissioning, start-up and operator training for future plant builds.Conducting literature and patent research to support process research and development and implementing into experimental designs• Deploying team members to product development projects where engineering is needed for product formulation, implementation, and equipment design, and monitoring the progress of such projects• Managing a team of Engineers, Associates, and Technicians, including reviewing work, providing feedback, and furthering their professional and personal growth• Crafting ongoing improvements to documentation, organization, standardization of methods• Collaborating on cross-functional teams to understand customer needs, translate these to successful formulations, and adhere to safety and quality standards• Supporting and overseeing operation and troubleshooting of lab-scale process equipmentRequirements• Bachelor’s degree (Masters preferred) in Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, or a related field with 7+ years of process development experience within food, pharmaceutical, biotechnology or related industries• Strong technical background in process development, technology transfer, and scale-up in biotech, pharma, or food technology fields• Experience in purification, drying, powder processing, formulations, and powder mixing• Ability to define problems, take initiative, and prioritize objectives from multiple projects• Experience with Design of Experiments (DoE) and other statistical data analysis methods• Excellent organizational, communication, and team building skills• Comfortable with a fast-paced work environment• Experience with protein or biopolymer extraction processing and analysis techniques preferred• cGMP compliant process experience in food or pharmaceutical industries preferred• Ability to be on your feet in a laboratory setting and lift up to 40 pounds• Ability to work flexible and off hours on an as needed basisBenefitsMori provides a comprehensive benefits package which includes:• Health, vision, and dental plans where Mori pays 50% of the premium• Health Savings Account (HSA) for High Deductible Health Plans (HDHP)• Unlimited paid-time-off (which includes sick pay) and 11 paid company holidays• 401(k) plan with company match• Commuter benefits providing employees the opportunity to use tax-free dollars on commuting costs (as specified by the benefit administrator)• Free, access to confidential mental health counsellors through a program called Health Advocate.Health Advocate also helps with other things (securing childcare, finding lawyers for wills, etc.), and you have access to the full array of Health Advocate options• Health Advocate also offers advice on which health insurance option to choose based on your personal circumstances (HIPAA compliant, everything is done between you and them and never comes to a Mori employee).
