Senior Transportation Planner | Upstate New York
About the positionResponsibilities• Project Leadership: Lead and contribute to a variety of planning projects, including feasibility studies, comprehensive plans, corridor studies, and multimodal/complete streets plans. • Environmental Review: Prepare and manage SEQR documentation (State Environmental Quality Review) for various projects, including Environmental Assessment Forms (EAFs) and associated technical studies. • Project Management: Manage project teams, schedules, deliverables, and budgets while coordinating with internal staff, subconsultants, clients, and agency stakeholders.• Data Analysis: Collect, analyze, and interpret data related to travel behavior, demographics, and system performance using tools like GIS and planning models. • Stakeholder Engagement: Lead community engagement activities, facilitate public meetings, and synthesize feedback to inform project recommendations. • Client Management: Serve as a key client contact, maintaining strong relationships, and ensuring the successful delivery of projects in terms of quality and schedule. • Mentorship: Provide mentorship and guidance to junior staff, contributing to the professional development and growth of the planning team.Requirements• Bachelor’s Degree in Urban or Regional Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography, Environmental Planning, Public Policy, or a related field. • Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible professional planning experience, with a core focus on transportation or related disciplines. • Proven experience leading planning projects and supervising tasks or project teams. • AICP Certification (American Institute of Certified Planners) is strongly preferred, or the ability to obtain certification within one year of hire is required.• Strong technical writing, verbal communication, and time management skills. Nice-to-haves• Demonstrated proficiency in GIS tools (e.g., ArcGIS) for spatial analysis and data visualization is preferred. • Experience with complex, interdisciplinary projects in the Northeast, including oversight of environmental documentation (e.g., NEPA/EIS), technical studies, and budgeting, is a plus.
