Sr. Staff Software Engineer, AI Automation (Developer Productivity)

The team is part of the Developer Platform Experience organization with the mission to empower LinkedIn engineers to ship high quality products, with confidence and high velocity. We provide infrastructure, tooling and experiences that enable and promote automatic validations, diagnostics and analytics across various stages of the development lifecycle and various technology stacks. We partner with organizations and engineering teams across the company to build the right strategy and investments that boost engineering productivity and product quality. As a Senior Staff Software Engineer you will define and lead our company-wide strategy for AI-assisted software development—from vision to adoption. You’ll partner directly with senior engineering and product leadership to transform how thousands of engineers build, test, and ship software. You’ll lead a team of passionate and driven engineers and collaborate across multiple organizations to embed AI into developer workflows, accelerate productivity, and improve software quality through modern, responsible AI integration. Responsibilities • Define the strategy for AI-assisted software development across the company (copilots, test generation, code review, knowledge systems, etc.). • Lead architecture and technical direction for integrating AI into core developer workflows and internal tooling. • Partner with senior leaders to align investments, pilot programs, and success metrics for AI-driven productivity. • Mentor and grow your engineering team focused on applied AI and developer experience. • Collaborate across organizations—platform, developer tools, infrastructure, research—to align roadmaps and scale adoption. • Drive measurable outcomes through data-driven experiments (e.g., PR velocity, CFR, quality metrics). Requirements • BA/BS Degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline, or related practical experience. • 5+ years of experience in software design, development, and algorithm related solutions • 5+ years of experience in programming languages such as Python, Java, C/C++, C# • 2+ years of experience in an architect or technical leadership position Nice-to-haves • BS and 10+ years of relevant work experience, MS and 8+ years of relevant work experience, or PhD and 6+ years of relevant work experience. • Strong hands-on experience in the developer productivity domain in large engineering environments, including building, and operationalizing complex, reliable systems. • Development experience with AI tools like Cursor, Claude Code, Github co-pilot • Deep understanding of AI/ML systems, LLM APIs, or developer productivity platforms. • Track record of leading cross-org technical initiatives and influencing senior leadership. • Background in developer platforms, internal tooling, or productivity engineering. • Experience integrating AI systems into developer workflows (e.g., IDE copilots, CI/CD, documentation automation). • Experience with change management and developer adoption at scale. • Strong software architecture, systems design, and programming skills (Python, Java, TypeScript). • Excellent communication skills—you can articulate complex ideas across technical and executive audiences. • A growth mindset: curiosity, humility, and drive to explore how AI can reshape software development. • Experience with large-scale distributed systems and client-server architectures. • Experience with strategic planning, executing on a long term roadmap, team development and scaling processes to support business growth. • Experience leading by influence, formulating and driving technical strategies across various organizations.
