Job Description SummaryThe College of Forest Resources and Environmental Science at Michigan Technological University invites applications for the position of Assistant Teaching Professor in GIS andRemote Sensing. This is a nine-month, non-tenure-track, renewable position at MTU. Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)Teaching responsibilities will include five to six synchronous or asynchronous on line and in-person courses per year with some of them being at the graduate level. The courses will be determined based on the needs of the College but will include courses in remote sensing of the environment and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).Development of GIS Certificates as part of a soon to be offered Masters in GIS through the MTU Global Campus. This work will take place during the spring and summer 2023 and beyond. Oversee the roll out of the first GIS Certificate in Fall 2023 and the continuing development of certificates 2 and 3. Required Education, Certifications, Licensures (minimum requirements)Ph.D. inRemote Sensing of the Environment or a closely related discipline at the time of appointment. Required Experience (minimum requirements)Experience as lead instructor in GIS and remote sensing classesDesirable Education and/or ExperienceInterest and experience in delivering classes in the area of remote sensing and GIS, and interest and experience in delivering such classes online.Experience with research including overseeing projects and developing an externally funded research program (approx. 10-15% of position)Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities (minimum requirements)Demonstrated ability to teach effectively at the undergraduate level. Experience with Image classification, machine learning, GIS software including ESRI products.
