About the RoleWe are seeking a Part-Time Civil Engineer with experience in water, wastewater, and sewer infrastructure to provide technical support on an as-needed, fully remote basis.Typical tasks include preparing utility designs, technical reports, hydraulic analysis, and reviewing construction-phase submittals for municipal projects throughout Maryland. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who prefers flexible hours, remote work, and project-based assignments. Key Responsibilities• Prepare engineering designs for water distribution, wastewater collection, and sewer conveyance systems. • Develop utility alignments, plan & profile drawings, calculations, and design summaries.• Support sewer rehabilitation efforts including gravity sewer, force main, and manhole evaluations. • Perform hydraulic and hydrologic analysis using standard engineering tools. • Review shop drawings, RFIs, as-builts, and provide remote construction-phase support. • Assist with permitting requirements and regulatory coordination for Maryland jurisdictions. • Provide engineering input on an as-needed basis depending on workload and project deadlines. Minimum Qualifications• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.• 5+ years of relevant experience in water, wastewater, or sewer infrastructure. • Proficient in AutoCAD or Civil 3D; familiarity with GIS is preferred. • Strong understanding of pipeline design, utility layout, and general civil engineering practices. • Ability to work independently and deliver high-quality work remotely. • Strong technical writing and communication skills. Preferred Qualifications• Experience with Maryland agencies, permitting, and utility standards. • Familiarity with hydraulic modeling tools (SWMM, HEC-RAS, InfoWater, etc.).• Experience in sewer inspection review, inflow/infiltration analysis, or rehabilitation design. • NASSCO PACP/MACP/LACP certification is a plus. • EIT or PE license in Maryland preferred but not required for part-time work. Soft Skills• Strong communication and collaboration abilities in a remote environment. • Ability to manage tasks efficiently with minimal supervision. • Detail-oriented and proactive with problem-solving.
