Description Job Title: Staff CAD/GIS Drafter Location: Remote Employment Type: Temporary, Full Time (W-2), Non-Exempt Assignment Duration: Approximately 6 months, with the potential to extend based on business needs and performance Hourly Rate: $28 to $34, depending on experience Reports To: Systems and Integrations Manager Company Overview: CDH Consulting is a quickly growing environmental consulting firm dedicated to providing innovative solutions to our clients. Position Overview: The CAD/GIS Drafter supports CDH Consulting’s environmental compliance work by producing clear, accurate, and client- and agency-ready figures, maps, and technical drawings. This role collaborates closely with environmental professionals to translate field notes, forms, and datasets into consistent deliverables that meet client standards and agency requirements. This is a temporary, full-time role intended to support current project needs. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, comfortable working in both CAD and GIS environments, and able to manage multiple figure requests with strong QA/QC. Typical deliverables include, but are not limited to, site location maps, facility or site plan-view figures, sampling location figures, and disturbance/footprint exhibits. Key Responsibilities: • Create and revise compliance figures and maps (e.g., site location maps, plan-view diagrams, sampling maps, and disturbance footprints) using CAD and/or GIS. • Apply CDH drafting/mapping standards, templates, symbology, and title blocks to ensure consistent deliverables. • Compile and validate source data (client drawings, GPS/field notes, spreadsheets, shapefiles, imagery, survey data) and document assumptions. • Incorporate redlines and review comments; track revisions and maintain version control. • Perform QA/QC checks for completeness (scale, north arrow, legend, coordinate system, labeling) and alignment with submittal requirements. • Export and package deliverables in required formats (PDF, DWG, DXF, map/image exports) and organize project folders per CDH standards. • Coordinate priorities and due dates with project managers and technical staff; flag data gaps early to protect schedules. Required Skills & Qualifications: • Strong proficiency in either CAD or GIS, with the ability and willingness to work across both disciplines (training/support provided). • Proficiency with AutoCAD or similar CAD software; ability to create/edit drawings, manage layers, and plot/export to standard formats (or demonstrated ability to learn quickly). • Proficiency with Esri GIS tools (ArcGIS Pro preferred) including data layers, symbology, basic geoprocessing, and map layouts (or demonstrated ability to learn quickly). • Strong attention to detail and ability to produce client- and agency-ready figures with consistent formatting. • Ability to interpret technical information (field notes, site plans, coordinates, aerial imagery) and translate it into clear visuals. • Strong organization and time management; ability to manage multiple requests and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. • Effective written and verbal communication and comfort collaborating with distributed/remote teams. Preferred Skills & Qualifications: • Experience producing figures for environmental compliance, oil and gas operations, or agency submittals (e.g., state environmental or air quality filings). • Familiarity with ArcGIS Online/Portal, web maps, Survey123, or other field data collection workflows. • Basic scripting/automation experience (e.g., Python, ModelBuilder, VBA) to streamline repetitive mapping/drafting tasks. • Understanding of coordinate systems, projections, and best practices for spatial data management. • Experience with Adobe Acrobat/Illustrator or similar tools for minor post-processing of figures. Education and Experience: • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Drafting/Design, GIS/Geography, Engineering Technology, Environmental Science, or related field (or equivalent practical experience). • 2+ years of professional experience producing CAD drawings and/or GIS maps; environmental consulting or oil and gas experience is a plus.
