Acts to ensure patient safety through continual virtual surveillance and verbal redirection. Performs basic activities for which competence is demonstrated through the Virtual Sitter checklist. • Demonstrates understanding and proficiency in the use of telesitter software. • Knowledgeable and supportive of patient and institutional confidentiality and related hospital policies. • Capable of continuous video monitoring of up to 6 patients on one screen at one time and remaining alert at all times while on duty. • Ability to document on both a paper log and within the electronic health record. • Ability to communicate effectively with patients using a microphone and headset when verbal redirection is needed. • Efficiency in multitasking, ability to prioritize simultaneous situations. • Promptly communicates observations, concerns, and needs of the patient to hospital staff. • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. • Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs. Qualifications • High School graduate or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED) or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED) required or relevant experience. Requirements • 1+ years previous experience working in a hospital setting preferred. • 1+ years previous experience working as a telesitter preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities • Familiarity with computer/keyboard. • Effective interpersonal and communication skills necessary to interact courteously and tactfully with patients, parents/families and members of the health care team. • Rudimentary assessment and analytical skills in order to perform basic patient observations. • Functional sight, hearing and speech. Ability to sit and stay alert for prolonged periods of time. Patient Care Responsibility • Provides care appropriate to patient population and as described in applicable policies and procedures.
