Job Summary Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, the successful candidate will take verbatim notes at court hearings, trials, and other proceedings, and transcribe stenographic notes to produce transcripts of courtroom activities. Key Responsibilities Take verbatim notes at court hearings, trials, and other proceedings using stenographic equipment Transcribe stenographic notes to produce transcripts of courtroom activities, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail Attend court proceedings at various locations, utilizing knowledge of courtroom proceedings and activities in civil and criminal cases Communicate effectively with court staff, parties, and other stakeholders, providing excellent customer service and support Maintain up-to-date reference materials regarding court reporting, staying current with industry developments and best practices Work independently with little direction, utilizing strong organizational and time management skills to meet deadlines and deliver results Essential Qualifications To be considered for this exciting opportunity, you must possess the following essential qualifications: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to the requirements to become a Certified Shorthand Reporter A valid California Class C driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the Court's vehicle insurance policy Certification as a Shorthand Reporter (C.S.R.) in the state of California Knowledge of legal and medical terminology, oral and written communication skills, and correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary Ability to attend court hearings, trials, and other proceedings to take stenographic notes, and to accurately transcribe stenographic notes and prepare transcripts on computerized stenographic equipment Preferred Qualifications While not essential, the following qualifications are highly desirable: Previous experience working as a court reporter in a fast-paced legal environment Strong knowledge of courtroom proceedings and activities in civil and criminal cases Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others Ability to work independently with little direction, utilizing strong organizational and time management skills to meet deadlines and deliver results Skills and Competencies To be successful in this role, you will require the following skills and competencies: Strong stenographic skills, with the ability to take verbatim notes at a rate of 200 words per minute Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to read, review, edit, and correct written materials Ability to work under deadlines, prioritizing tasks and managing multiple projects simultaneously Strong attention to detail, with a focus on delivering high-quality results and meeting customer expectations Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits At our organization, we are committed to providing our employees with opportunities for growth and development.
