Job Summary and Key Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of a certified teacher, the successful candidate will perform a range of instructional support services, including providing one-on-one tutoring, assisting with classroom management, and compiling accurate student records. The ideal candidate will be prepared to work with students in need of academic intervention and language acquisition, from kindergarten to 12th grade. Key responsibilities will include:
- Providing one-on-one tutoring to students, as scheduled, to support their academic development
- Assisting with classroom management, including organizing instructional materials and maintaining a safe and respectful learning environment
- Compiling and maintaining accurate student records, including attendance, testing results, and progress monitoring data
- Providing instructional support to classroom instructors, including preparing materials and assisting with lesson plans
- Conducting parent involvement activities, including contacting parents/legal guardians to encourage their active participation in their child's education
- Coordinating parent/family school functions and attending meetings and parent conferences to facilitate communication between students, parents, and instructors
- Providing support in a library or media center, as required
- Conducting progress monitoring assessments and maintaining accurate records
Essential and Preferred Qualifications
To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following essential qualifications:
- Completed two years (48 semester credits) of study at an institution of higher education; or obtained an associate's degree or met a rigorous standard of quality and be able to demonstrate, through a formal State or local assessment, knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics
- Ability to maintain effective communication with students and staff and to function effectively as a team member
- Ability to carry out and evaluate the achievement of students after the teacher prepares the lesson and plans the instructional support activities
- Ability to test and identify and keep accurate records on new and existing students
- Demonstrate adequate level of instructional technology skills
Preferred qualifications include:
- Experience and training working with children with diverse backgrounds in an instructional setting
- Bilingual or multilingual skills, with the ability to conduct initial multiple assessments to determine bilingual eligibility and yearly assessments to determine English language acquisition and adequate yearly progress
