About the Role We are seeking an experienced and passionate Long Term Substitute Teacher for Elementary Music and Orchestra to join our team. As a Long Term Substitute Teacher, you will play a vital role in providing classroom coverage for a teacher/counselor who is absent for an extended period. You will be responsible for guiding the learning process, ensuring a safe and well-managed classroom environment, and maintaining high standards of professionalism and integrity. Key Responsibilities Deliver lesson plans as instructed by the regular classroom teacher and/or school administrators, including taking daily attendance Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students within the assigned classroom and respond to emergency situations in a professional and calm manner Maintain a professional and positive rapport with all students, staff, administration, and others Maintain order and discipline in the classroom, conducive to effective learning, and clearly communicate expectations to students Adapt to individual learning needs, providing individual and small group instruction as needed Strive to implement assistive technology in instruction and meet individual student needs Actively participate in professional development sessions to enhance your skills and knowledge Perform other related duties as assigned by the Principal or appropriate administrator Essential Qualifications Applicants must hold at least one of the following licenses through the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE): Professional Educator License (PEL) or Substitute License (SUB) Experience working with students is a plus, and a strong understanding of music education principles and practices is essential Must be detail-oriented and able to follow written and verbal instructions Ability to read, analyze, and interpret lesson plans, technical procedures, and textbooks Experience with technology equipment is desirable Preferred Qualifications A degree in Music Education or a related field is preferred Previous experience as a substitute teacher or in a related role is highly desirable Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with students, staff, and parents Strong classroom management skills, with the ability to maintain a safe and respectful learning environment Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and priorities, with a flexible and positive attitude Skills and Competencies Strong knowledge of music education principles and practices, including curriculum design and implementation Excellent teaching and instructional skills, with the ability to engage and motivate students Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with students, staff, and parents Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong sense of professionalism and integrity Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits At School District U-46, we are committed to supporting the ongoing professional development and growth of our staff. Compensation, Perks, and Benefits We offer a competitive salary package, with a daily rate of $256.68 (effective after 15 days of continuous employment in the same assignment; retroactive to 1st day of assignment).
