About the Role: Substitute Teacher in Tenafly, NJ
We're seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Substitute Teacher to join our team in Tenafly, NJ. As a Substitute Teacher with Scoot Education, you'll have the flexibility to choose your assignments and work on your own schedule. Our competitive pay rates, up to $190 for day-to-day assignments and more for long-term assignments, reflect our commitment to valuing your skills and experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide high-quality instruction and support to students in the absence of their regular teacher
- Develop and implement engaging lesson plans, as needed
- Manage classroom behavior and create a positive learning environment
- Communicate effectively with school staff, administrators, and parents
- Participate in 1:1 check-ins with your Scoot consultant to discuss school feedback and develop your skills
- Be available for assignments on a flexible schedule, with the opportunity to choose your own shifts
Essential Qualifications:
- Associate or Bachelor's degree, or 60+ college credits
- NJ Substitute Credential
- Three professional references, including one from a previous direct supervisor
- Background check and TB risk assessment (we'll cover the cost of this)
- Full COVID-19 vaccination
- A passion for education and putting students first
- An empathetic nature, a growth mindset, and a drive to be the best you can be
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a substitute teacher or in a related educational role
- Special education experience or certification
- Subject-specific expertise (e.g., Math, Science, English, etc.)
- Experience working with diverse student populations

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to adapt to new situations and challenges
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Classroom management and discipline techniques
- Knowledge of curriculum and instructional strategies
