The Histology Assistant plays a vital role in our laboratory, working alongside a talented team to prepare DNA extraction, Immunohistochemistry (IHC), and H&E staining samples. This position requires strong attention to detail and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. Main Responsibilities Maintain the upkeep of the laboratory, including inventory management, cleaning glassware, and equipment maintenance. Perform decontamination using appropriate materials and follow safety protocols. Conduct basic preventative maintenance on equipment according to manufacturer specifications. Dispose of non-biohazard and biohazard waste. Restock laboratory supplies and distribute them to work areas. Track samples using laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and excel spreadsheets. Scan H&E slides into the slide scanning system for pathologist review. File and store slides and FFPE tissue blocks. Assist with initial quality review of incoming specimens. Label FFPE blocks, slides, and DNA tubes following standard operating procedures (SOPs). Enter orders from requisition forms into staining platform software. Prepare cases for microtomy, selecting control slides as needed. Record required temperatures and take corrective actions when necessary. Maintain histology equipment and corresponding documentation. Requirements High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED). Basic computer skills, including internet navigation and email usage. Demonstrated ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation. Authorization to work in the United Kingdom without sponsorship.
