We're seeking an experienced and compassionate Interim Housing Navigator to join our team on a temporary basis. About the Role
The Interim Housing Navigator will play a critical role in our Housing Solutions program, providing essential support and guidance to individuals residing in our Mercy House Shelters. This position requires a strong background in human services, case management, and mental health, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills. As an Interim Housing Navigator, you will work closely with residents to assess their needs, develop individualized housing plans, and provide ongoing support and advocacy to help them achieve their goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Service Delivery:
- Maintain a caseload of 22-30 individuals and meet with participants as needed or instructed by your supervisor.
- Conduct Navigation assessments for clients within seven days of entering shelter and determine eligibility for housing programs.
- Assist clients in obtaining required documents to secure housing, such as valid identification, birth certificates, and income verification.
- Provide information, referrals, crisis intervention, and assistance with permanent housing placement.
- Develop and implement Individual Service Plans with short-term and long-term goals.
- Utilize harm reduction interventions and methodologies to provide client-centered services.
- Conduct crisis and risk assessments in consultation with supervisors and case management teams.
- Team and Staff Relations:
- Work collaboratively with other community support providers, outreach teams, and housing authorities.
- Attend regular internal and external agency meetings.
- Participate in team planning and development of resident programs.
- Communicate effectively with diverse populations.
- Administrative Tasks:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation on all clients, including individual housing plans and case notes.
- Assist with data collection systems and ensure deadlines are met.
- Utilize computers and software applications, such as Microsoft Office and HMIS.
- Respond to calls and emails in a timely manner.
Qualifications and Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A Bachelor's degree in Human Services or a related field.
- At least one year of experience working with homeless individuals and mental health.
- Alternatively, individuals with less than a BA/BS degree but with at least 2 years of direct life experience working with long-term homeless, low-income, and diverse populations are welcome to apply.
- A valid driver's license and reliable personal vehicle, as well as proof of auto insurance.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to sudden changes.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with case management, mental health counseling, and housing services.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care and motivational interviewing.
- Familiarity with HMIS and other data collection systems.
