Part-time Contract Tax Preparer

Company Description Ashford Sky CPA is a small remote CPA firm serving a wide array of small business clients. Our firm provides specialized services to help business owners navigate the complexities of entrepreneurship with expert tax and financial guidance. Role Description We are seeking a part-time, contract experienced Tax Preparer to join our remote team. This is a perfect role for someone who excelled at a large CPA firm, but now wants to scale back to a remote part-time contract position. In this role, you will be responsible for a variety of tasks that are essential to our clients' tax well-being, including: • Preparing individual and business tax returns, including book-to-tax walkforwards and capital account tracking • Tax Research through Deep Research AI, as needed • Keeping a standard set of workpapers for documentation • Maintaining a consistent turnaround time to keep all projects moving • Your work will be reviewed by the owner, who has a background mainly in corporate tax. Estimated Workload: Work hours are expected to be 15-25 hours per week during tax season (February 15 – April 15), and 0-5 hours per week during off-season (April 15 – February 15) Qualifications • 2-5+ years of preparing or reviewing tax returns, including business and individual tax returns (1120, 1120-S, 1065, and 1040) • Experience at a large local, regional, or national CPA firm. Extensive experience with business tax returns. • Proficiency in preparing tax returns in CCH Axcess • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines • Attention to detail and willing to document workpapers clearly • Reliable laptop, a second monitor, with access to wi-fi (you will use your own computer) • Proficiency with the Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, Teams, Powerpoint, etc.) • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field • Must be US-based • CPA designation is highly preferred Compensation & Perks • Pay will be $40 - $50 per hour, DOE (almost all of this will be billable time) • Potential to be paid based on revenue managed, which often results in a higher hourly pay. • Company-paid ChatGPT Teams plan. • Very Flexible schedule; most client interaction is via email with occasional calls. Ability to start now with some small projects before tax season in spring. • Small, growing team (currently three people) with room to increase hours as we scale. • Mentorship and learning from the owner, who has spent over 10 years in public accounting working with various types of businesses.
