Join the La Grange Police Department: Serving and Protecting the Community The Village of La Grange, a vibrant community with a population of 16,321, is seeking highly motivated and dedicated individuals to join our Police Department as part-time Police Officers. As a part-time Police Officer, you will play a vital role in maintaining community safety, enforcing laws and ordinances, and providing exceptional service to residents, business owners, and visitors. About the La Grange Police Department The La Grange Police Department is a valued facet of the community, providing excellent service and continually striving for improvement, including accreditation through the Illinois Law Enforcement Accreditation Program (ILEAP). Our department consists of 35 full-time employees, including 28 sworn officers and five civilian employees, as well as two part-time officers. We are committed to preserving and promoting community safety through quality service, and we are looking for individuals who share our vision and values. Key Responsibilities: Perform general police work and traffic enforcement to protect the lives, persons, and property of the citizens of the Village of La Grange Respond to calls for service, conduct investigations, and maintain routine patrol activities to preserve the peace, enforce the law, prevent and detect crime, protect life and property, arrest suspected violators of the law, and render service to the public Work under the direction of Police Sergeants to ensure effective and efficient policing Develop and maintain positive relationships with the community, including residents, business owners, and visitors Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay up-to-date on laws, procedures, and best practices Requirements and Qualifications: Essential Qualifications: Be at least 21 years of age on the date of appointment Possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent Possess a valid Illinois Driver's License Hold a valid Firearm Owner's ID Be a graduate of a State of Illinois basic recruit academy and meet requirements for Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board (ILETSB) for Certified Police Officer or eligible to receive a waiver of training Not have been convicted of a felony or certain misdemeanors, as defined by statute Preferred Qualifications: 60 semester hours from an accredited college or university by the time of appointment At least two years' experience as a sworn law enforcement officer Skills and Competencies: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work effectively in a team environment Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills Ability to remain calm and composed in high-stress situations Commitment to community policing and public service Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits: The La Grange Police Department is committed to the professional development of our officers.
