The Commercial Marketing Specialist is responsible for marketing new and renewal commercial business to insurance carriers, negotiating coverage, pricing, and terms to align with client needs and agency objectives.
Responsibilities
- Market new and renewal commercial business to insurance carriers to secure competitive coverage, pricing, and terms
- Prepare accurate and complete submissions, including applications, loss runs, and supplemental documentation
- Analyze carrier proposals and compare coverage options, pricing, and underwriting considerations
- Negotiate with underwriters regarding coverage, terms, and pricing to support client and agency objectives
- Prepare proposals and coverage summaries for producers and clients
- Bind coverage and coordinate policy issuance, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
- Build and maintain strong relationships with carrier representatives and underwriting partners
- Maintain knowledge of carrier appetite, underwriting guidelines, market trends, and industry developments
- Partner with Commercial Producers to evaluate client needs, risk profiles, and placement strategy
- Collaborate with Account Managers to support a smooth transition from sale to ongoing service
- Maintain accurate records and documentation within agency management systems and CRM platforms
- Participate in strategy discussions and contribute to process improvements, operational consistency, and commercial growth initiatives
Skills
- Experience within a commercial insurance agency environment
- Strong understanding of commercial property & casualty insurance
- 3–7 years of experience in commercial property and casualty insurance
- Strong understanding of commercial lines coverage, underwriting, placement strategy, and rating concepts
- Experience in marketing commercial accounts and negotiating with carriers
- Experience working with agency management systems, CRM platforms, and Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience collaborating with producers, account managers, and underwriting partners in a fast-paced agency environment
- An active and valid Property and Casualty (P&C) License is required. Texas Preferred
- Must maintain all required licenses in good standing, including completion of continuing education requirements
- Commercial Insurance Expertise – Strong understanding of commercial lines products, coverage structures, underwriting principles, and market dynamics
- Negotiation Skills – Ability to effectively negotiate coverage, pricing, and terms with carriers and underwriters
- Analytical Thinking – Ability to evaluate complex proposals, identify coverage gaps, and assess risk exposure
- Communication Skills – Clear, professional communicator able to present coverage options and collaborate effectively with carriers and internal teams
- Relationship Building – Builds and maintains strong working relationships with underwriters, producers, and account management teams
- Organization & Attention to Detail – Maintains accuracy across submissions, proposals, documentation, and policy details
- Time Management – Effectively manages multiple accounts, deadlines, and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Technical Proficiency – Comfortable using agency management systems, CRM platforms, and Microsoft Office tools
- Initiative & Accountability – Proactively supports placement strategy, problem-solving, and operational effectiveness
- Collaboration – Works effectively across teams to support client service, placement success, and business growth
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Business, Risk Management, Insurance, or a related field preferred
- Insurance designations such as CIC, ARM, AAI, or CPCU are preferred
