Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Mercury Insurance is a leading insurance provider dedicated to helping people reduce risk and overcome unexpected events. They are seeking a Manager of Accounting to oversee the general ledger and ensure timely and accurate financial reporting, while managing a team of accountants and collaborating with external auditors.
Responsibilities
- Lead a team of accountants and financial professionals. Ensure timely and accurate reporting of financial information to the Director of accounting and outside entities
- Accountable for overall effectiveness and compliance with established accounting practices and procedures. Oversees timely completion of third-party statement reconciliations and prompt resolution of all items
- Works in conjunction with state examiners and outside auditors to coordinate audits, prepare work papers, and gather pertinent financial information for annual audit reports
- Analyzes operating results relative to established guidelines and takes appropriate action to improve performance, productivity, and effectiveness
- Works with leadership to complete projects and requests from other business units
- Leadership responsibilities include training and developing direct reports, providing coaching and documenting performance
- Other functions may be assigned
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
- 5 years accounting experience
- 2 years of experience in the insurance industry
- 2 years supervisory experience
- Strong accounting principles and practices
- Proficiency in using accounting software and Excel
- Familiarity with Statutory and US GAAP
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams
- Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work under pressure
- CPA certification
