Principal Engineer - Fuel Performance - Remote Position
About the position Westinghouse Electric Co is seeking a Principal Engineer - Fuel Performance within Product Performance Engineering. This role involves performing and supporting Radiochemistry/Coolant Activity analysis work for US and international Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) customers, ensuring adherence to approved methodologies and maintaining a focus on nuclear safety and quality. The position requires tracking and analyzing fission product activity levels in the primary coolant, evaluating customer inquiries regarding fuel performance, and leading Post Irradiated Examinations (PIE) of Fuel Assemblies and Core Components. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with diverse teams to plan and execute projects, develop tooling and processes for PIE, and support evaluations of products exposed to fuel handling incidents. The role also involves maintaining performance databases and supporting the CFFF on product performance issues, with a travel requirement of up to 30%. Responsibilities • Perform and support Radiochemistry/Coolant Activity analysis work for PWR customers. • Track and analyze fission product activity levels in the primary coolant. • Evaluate and respond to customer questions regarding fuel performance. • Perform and lead Post Irradiated Examinations (PIE) of Fuel Assemblies and Core Components. • Work with diverse teams to plan and execute projects on schedule and within budget. • Develop tooling and processes for new or existing PIE. • Evaluate Rod Control Cluster Assemblies for anticipated wear and lifetime. • Support evaluations of products exposed to fuel handling incidents. • Track performance of Fuel products and maintain performance databases. • Support the CFFF on issues related to product performance. • Maintain unescorted access to customer sites. Requirements • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Nuclear, Mechanical, etc.) or related Discipline (Materials, etc.) preferred or recognized equivalent required. • Minimum 8 years of engineering experience. • General knowledge of nuclear reactor physics and theory preferred. • General knowledge of radiochemistry and balance of plant preferred. • Fuel Performance or Fuel Design and Manufacturing related experience is a plus. • Strong and effective written and verbal communication skills. • Comfortable leading meetings and developing and delivering presentations. • Strong interpersonal skills and experience working effectively in a team environment.
