Express and purify proteins for structural, biophysical, and enzymatic studies2. Perform enzymatic assays3. Order and inventory of cell stocks, chemicals, and supplies4. Assist in training new undergraduate studentsDEPARTMENT SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES*:¿ Proficiency with chromatographic purification methods¿ Proficiency with DNA manipulation and analysis methods¿ Proficiency with electrophoresis, both agarose and SDS-PAGE¿ Experience performing enzyme assays and interpreting enzymatic dataJob SummaryProvides support for research projects in the assigned area.Assists in conducting experiments, managing lab operations. This position is part of an NIH-supported program to study protein structure and biophysics of factors from pathogenic bacteria. Several proteins will be studied with NMR, crystallography, enzymology, and other methods to determine which lytic trans-glycosylases interact with which regulatory proteins and how molecular recognition is achieved in those complexes. This position is considered limited-term staff since it utilizes contingent funding which is currently only secured through June 2027.Employment thereafter will be conditional based on continued availability of funding. ResponsibilitiesKEY RESPONSIBILITIES: -1. Performs data collection and calculations according to established policies and procedures2. Interprets and communicates results3. Makes presentations on research results4. Assists with writing research papers, conducts library research and prepares bibliographic materials5. Cleans and maintains research areas, makes buffers and common reagents6.
