Job SummaryEnvironmentally motivated, customer service driven individual to manage comprehensive sustainability projects. Oversee advisory support to help sports and entertainment organizations develop and execute comprehensive sustainability strategies. Help lead a vertical of projects focused on stadiums and arenas. Collaborate with internal teams and customers to evaluate organizational structure and operations, benchmark environmental impacts, and initiate implementations. Manage holistic assessments and report on findings.Conduct gap analyses and implement short-term projects. Develop customer sustainability plans, impact inventories, training tools, marketing collateral, stakeholder engagement tools, and formulate and help implement best practices. Execute programs remotely and at customer sites. Maintain pre-established standards for safety and environmental issues. Up to 25% travel may be required. II. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the following essential duties satisfactorily.Other minor duties may be assigned. • Help lead a segment of service offerings focused on stadiums and arenas, with support for leagues as well. Manage full venue and organization sustainability assessments and facilitate program execution, personally overseeing a few large rojects and supporting Associates and Analysts with other venues and leagues. • Analyze assessment results and consult with client to identify, design, and implement environmental sustainability initiatives and cost saving opportunities and proposals.• Review and prepare final reports, including environmental, social, and economic analysis, and present conclusions to the customer in a timely manner. • Consult with existing, new, and potential customers to identify goals and solutions, and develop implementation strategies. Engage with customers on their strategic direction for sustainability, including understanding their ambitions and context and advising on targets and potential improvement levers. Translate for customers the sustainability impacts of WM services and solutions into language and frameworks that matter to the organizations’ senior leaders.• Oversee full sustainability assessments and program implementations, handling the customer management and guiding Associates and Analysts through the project process. • Oversee greenhouse gas inventory calculation protocols and process implementation across project work, including consistent use of a comprehensive emissions management software. Ensure that data collection and reporting activities meet or exceed WM Advisory Services internal methods, including accepted standards for greenhouse gas emissions calculations across scope 1, 2, and 3.• Stay current on emissions calculation trends, particularly as it relates to scope 3 sources and events, and work with team members to adjust internal processes and train staff accordingly. • Oversee materials management assessments and the delivery of waste reduction and diversion roadmaps including milestone plans, procurement analyses, standard operating procedures for waste diversion, and training activities. • Support customer engagement about new potential projects and drive business development, typically focused on stadiums and arenas.• Provide support for project proposals including budget development and development of consulting proposals. • Serve as liaison between WM Advisory Services and WM’s sports sponsorship team to ensure sponsored marketing activities align with customer operations and identify sustainability success stories. • Integrate environmental justice priorities into program development. • Analyze existing sustainability frameworks and trends to optimize project management as well as WM services offerings. • Align projects with existing and emerging sustainability frameworks (e.g., CDP, ISSB (formerly TCFD), SBTi) to optimize project management.• Support on-site program implementation and train Associates and Analysts on project management strategies. • Assist customers in identifying operational process improvements and implement best practices to improve waste reduction and diversion. • Maintain current knowledge of external market trends, current sustainability topics & issues, internal sales strategies and operational capabilities. • Serve as a thought leader for WM in sustainability, including contributing to brand activations, corporate communications, and coordination between WM departments and areas.Engage internal stakeholders to help drive business across segments. • Proposes integrated waste management solutions that are compliant with appropriate local, state, and federal regulations. • Design project schedules, maintain multiple projects at the same time, meet deadlines and delivery quality deliverables. Analyze data sets, baseline data, and assessment findings to identify improvement opportunities. Prepare final reports and presentations and deliver conclusions to the customer in a manner that fits their needs and in a timely fashion.• Learn and maintain knowledge of what materials are generally accepted for recycling at Material Recycling Facilities (MRFs) and as source-segregated streams for commodity materials and organic waste. Also be familiar with waste diversion solutions for materials such as household hazardous waste, universal waste, e-waste, etc. • Conduct research as needed to prepare for customer strategy sessions, design strategy session agendas, and assist in facilitating customer sessions. • Maintain communications and a close working relationship with key WM Market Area personnel.• Ensure compliance with client and government regulations when performing assessments, implementing programs, and managing other on-site functions. • Promote culture of safety to perform assigned duties and help ensure the safety of any project participants to comply with safety, environmental, federal, state, and local regulations. • Other duties as assigned. Supervisory ResponsibilitiesThe highest level of supervisory skills that may be required in this job is the management of supervisory employees.This includes:• Direct management of approximately 0 to 10 full-time employees. IV. QualificationsThe requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job. A. Education and Experience• Education: Bachelor’s Degree (accredited) in Environmental Sciences, Engineering, Sustainability, Architectural Design, Community Planning or Business or in lieu of degree, High School Diploma or GED (accredited) and four years of relevant work experience. • Experience: Four (4) years of relevant work experience in project/business management.Environmental or services industry experience is required (in addition to education requirement). B. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirements• Direct experience covering organizational sustainability strategy development in the sports and entertainment industry, demonstrated by track record of advising on ambitions, targets, and programs strongly preferred. • Knowledge of circular economy, sustainable materials management, and zero waste design concepts and principles strongly preferred.• Experience researching life cycle assessment and embedded carbon research preferred. • Experience with conducting a greenhouse gas inventory and executing mitigation initiatives, organizational advisory services, and materials management strongly preferred. • Experience with intersectional environmentalism and environmental justice programs preferred. • Experience with sustainability risk and management frameworks, sport-specific or otherwise preferred. • Experience managing sustainability project with on site logistics support preferred.• Experience managing material minimization and diversion programs, supply chain analyses, and sustainable material management planning preferred. C. Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required• Experience working in sports venues and event operations strongly preferred. • Experience managing multiple employees as well as customers and/or projects simultaneously. • Experience with implementing GHG emissions reduction initiatives and researching mitigation technology preferred. • Experience with the development of diversity, equity, and inclusion programs preferred.• Computer and tech savvy – must be adaptable to new programs and systems. • High proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel. • Comfortable with project travel up to two weeks at a time. D. The expected salary range for this position is $61,300 – $89,930. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s relevant experience, education, training, certifications, qualifications, and work location. In addition, this position is eligible for a 10% annual target bonus.
