Student and Faculty Support Services Librarian (Part-Time Temporary)
About the position The Student and Faculty Support Services Librarian at SUNY Empire will be part of a user-centered library team, providing consultative research help, instructional support, and outreach services to students and faculty. This part-time temporary position involves assisting users with research assignments, navigating the online library, and developing instructional content. The librarian will work primarily in the evenings during the academic semesters and late afternoons in the summer semester, contributing to various library projects and enhancing access to resources. Responsibilities • Provide consultative research help to students and faculty via live chat, phone, email, and web-based consultations. • Monitor reference request systems and assist users with research assignments and library services. • Develop online instructional content such as FAQs, guides, and videos. • Process resource sharing requests from Empire users and other libraries. • Assist with projects like link checking and metadata creation for the institutional repository. • Provide instruction and assistance related to research and library services to individuals and small groups. • Deliver research services to global users through the Ask Us 24/7 chat service. Requirements • Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited US university or comparable non-US university. • Experience providing research support to students and faculty using various delivery methods. • Experience with library resources such as discovery systems and subject databases. Nice-to-haves • Master's Degree, preferably in Library Science. • Experience working in library systems from the staff perspective. • Experience teaching or presenting library or research concepts. • Knowledge of best practices in online reference. • Experience providing in-depth research support services in multiple academic disciplines.
