Job title: Associate Professor -N-T Track Research - Biochemistry & Molecular BiologyCompany: UTMB HealthJob description: Associate Professor -N-T Track Research - Biochemistry & Molecular BiologyGalveston, Texas, United StatesFacultyUTMB HealthRequisition #JOB DESCRIPTION:The Molecular Genomics Core (MGC) at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) is an institutionally supported service-for-fee research core providing expertise and resources that are needed to advance scientific knowledge and discovery at the interface genomics and life sciences.We are seeking a new Director of the MGC, who will be responsible for overseeing operations as a central resource providing cutting-edge genomics and next generation sequencing (NGS) expertise to investigators across the institution. This individual will oversee all aspects of the cores operations, including the design and execution of research protocols, the management of budgets and personnel while working with cores users, including facilitating the dissemination of research findings to the scientific community.The Director of the MGC will play a vital role in growing the institutions research capabilities and resources and will have the opportunity to impact the development and growth of basic and translational research programs at UTMB. Depending on qualification and prior academic experience, the Director of MGC can be appointed as a non-tenure track Assistant or Associate Professor in the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:• Ensure that the MGC s services and technologies are of the highest quality, efficient and bolthires-effective meeting the research needs of the institutions faculty, staff, and students• Lead the development, implementation, and utilization of cutting-edge NGS protocols• Manage the team of 3 research staff, budgets, equipment, and resources for the core• Meet with and advise users of the facility on best practices and experimental design• Foster a culture of innovation and collaboration among the MGC staff and users• Disseminate findings through publications, presentations, and workshops• Develop and implement strategies for the growth and success of MGC• Stay current with advances in genomic technologies and techniques• Collaborate with other research cores and facilities at the university to promote interdisciplinary research and shared resources• Develop and maintain partnerships with other institutions, companies, and organizations to enhance the MGCs services and resources• Represent the core at internal and external meetings and conferencesMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:• PhD or MD in a relevant field such as genetics, genomics, or bioinformatics• At least 3-5 years of experience in leading and managing a genomics research team or core facility• Strong understanding of the latest genomic technologies and techniques• Strong leadership, management, and communication skills• Familiarity with budget management and financial acumen• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills• Record of publications in the field of genomics.SALARY:Commensurate with ExperienceEQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY:UTMB Health strives to provide equal opportunity employment without regard to race, color, religion, age, national origin, sex, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, genetic information, disability, veteran status, or any other basis protected by institutional policy or by federal, state or local laws unless such distinction is required by law.
