Auditor, Sustainable Seafood Chain of Custody
Overview The Sustainable Seafood Chain of Custody Auditor is a contract position, working independently or in teams. The auditor travels to client offices, processing plants, and consumer-facing organizations to assess practices and systems relative to the MSC, ASC, and RFM certification standards. Assessments involve document review, employee and contractor interviews, and on-site evaluation of field activities. Detailed assessment reports must be written and submitted on time. SCS provides ongoing training. This contractor must be based in the Mid-West: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin Relevant Services/Schemes • Marine Stewardship Council Chain of Custody (MSC) • Aquaculture Stewardship Council Chain of Custody (ASC) • Responsible Fisheries Management Chain of Custody (RFM) Roles And Responsibilities • Audit Coordination • Schedule and confirm audit date with client • Prepare and send client audit plan according to protocols • Book travel, hotel, and transportation according to company policy, and submit expense reports • Audit services • Adhere to all quality and code of conduct standards • Conduct audits using applicable checklists, forms, and tools • Maintain positive client relationships and respond to all client inquiries and concerns • Submit complete and accurate audit reports within established timelines • Ensure thorough client records are maintained • Attend trainings to maintain qualification to conduct audits; maintain training records • Maintain up to date knowledge of applicable regulations and standards Minimum Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in environmental or biological science, marine biology, business, economics, or technical program with two years of work experience in any of the following: seafood or fisheries industry, food industry, supply chain management, science, traceability, policy development OR • Master’s degree or equivalent in business, economics, environmental or biological science, or technical program OR • 2+ years of work experience applicable to the description above • Complete fluency in English with professional work experience that involves verbal and written communication • Strong organization, multi-tasking, and prioritization skills • Proficient with business software including Outlook, Word, and Excel • Strong attention to detail, customer service, and teamwork orientation • Ability to take the initiative, good judgment, and ability to work independently under pressure in a changing environment • Ability to work in the US and abroad as needed • ISO training certification or willingness to complete the ISO training offered by SCS Additional Preferred Qualifications • Language skills in Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, French, or Japanese • Previous audit experience Physical Requirements This is a home office-based job and requires travel for on-site audits with our clients 75% of the time. Must be able to travel to audit sites physically, ability to travel via private/public transportation and carry luggage, ability to walk and stand for 2+ hours/day when auditing. Primarily computer-based work and must be able to speak and listen in person and on the phone. Work Environment Home office and on-site client visits.
