Director, Employment Law (NY)
About the position The Director, Employment Law will work on the Ross Legal team, as a member of the Legal and Compliance group in New York, working directly with business stakeholders and HR to develop, implement, and monitor employment related policies and practices to promote compliance and mitigate legal exposure, while effectively managing projects/claims. The position will report to the Sr. Director, Employment Law, and will work directly with Human Resources and merchant organization executives and associates - both independently and in coordination with the broader Legal team and the Employment Law Group, as well as other Legal Department and business team members. Responsibilities • Provide day to day employment law advice, facilitating a coordinated team approach to legal services including advice on employee discipline, policies, leaves and accommodations, investigations, separation agreements, and non-compete agreements. • Effectively manage employment litigation matters including assessing exposure, supervising discovery, and managing both outside counsel and internal resources. • Partner with HR and other stakeholders to track legal developments and develop, implement, and monitor policies and practices to promote compliance and mitigate legal exposure. • Collaborate and build positive relationships with team members at all levels across the Legal department. • Ensure adequate reporting on projects, counseling/litigation outcomes, legal updates, and develop effective employment law training. Requirements • New York and/or California JD with 5+ years of employment law experience working at a leading law firm and/or corporate legal department. • Broad and deep employment law knowledge with extensive experience advising on a variety of employment law issues. • Ability to develop and maintain trusting relationships with diverse business partners. • Exceptional interpersonal skills and a flexible team player. • Strong business sense with excellent legal acumen, analytical, drafting, and negotiation skills. • Exceptional organizational and project management skills with attention to detail. • Experience managing a large volume of work in a fast-paced environment. • Excellent oral/written communication skills.
