Job Overview We are seeking a compassionate and skilled 988 Chat/Text Crisis Specialist to join our team, working on a part-time basis during weekend shifts (Friday to Sunday, 6 pm - 2:30 am CST). As a remote position, you will be part of a 24/7/365 mental health crisis and suicide prevention team, handling incoming chat and text messages through the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (NSPL), also known as 988. Your role will involve providing brief clinical screenings, risk assessments, and appropriate service linkage for individuals experiencing emotional distress. Key Responsibilities Provide telephonic or chat clinical screenings and risk assessments to individuals in crisis. Respond to crisis contacts via the chat/text platform to assess for suicide, safety, and identify suitable community resources to meet individual needs. Conduct follow-up calls for individuals deemed moderate to high risk for suicide, ensuring their safety and well-being. Maintain ethical and clinical standards in compliance with all accreditation requirements. Actively participate in ongoing supervision, training, and team meetings to enhance your skills and knowledge. Assist with administrative tasks as needed to support the team's operations. Essential Qualifications To be successful in this role, you will need: A Bachelor's degree in Behavioral Science, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field, or be a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist. Six months to one year of related crisis experience, demonstrating your ability to work in a fast-paced environment and provide emotional support to individuals in distress. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey empathy and understanding in a virtual setting. High-level customer service skills and professional etiquette, ensuring a positive experience for individuals seeking support. Demonstrated knowledge and competency in providing service linkage and referrals for programs, services, and community resources. Understanding of suicide assessments and the ability to provide crisis intervention. Preferred Qualifications While not essential, the following qualifications are desirable: Experience working in a trauma-informed organization or environment. Knowledge of mental health resources and services, including local and national organizations. Familiarity with crisis intervention techniques and de-escalation methods. Previous experience working in a remote or virtual setting, with the ability to self-motivate and manage your time effectively.
