Job Summary We are currently seeking an experienced and passionate 6th/7th Grade English Language Arts Teacher to fill an immediate opening in our district. As a teacher in this role, you will be responsible for creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment that fosters academic excellence, creativity, and social growth. You will work closely with students, parents, and colleagues to develop and implement engaging lesson plans, assess student progress, and provide targeted support to ensure that all students meet their full potential. Key Responsibilities Instruct assigned classes in English Language Arts, using a variety of teaching methods and materials to meet the diverse needs of students Plan and prepare lessons, units, and projects that align with district curriculum goals and standards Create a positive and nurturing classroom environment that promotes social, emotional, and academic growth Assess student progress and understanding, using a range of formal and informal assessments to inform instruction and adjust teaching strategies as needed Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues, providing regular updates on student progress and responding to concerns or questions in a timely and professional manner Collaborate with other teachers and staff members to develop and implement school-wide initiatives and programs Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current on best practices in teaching and learning, and to enhance your own skills and knowledge Essential Qualifications To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following essential qualifications: A current teaching certificate issued by the Arizona State Department of Education A bachelor's degree in English, Education, or a related field Proven experience teaching English Language Arts at the 6th/7th grade level, or a related subject area Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, parents, and colleagues Strong knowledge of English Language Arts curriculum and standards, including the ability to design and implement engaging and effective lesson plans Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with the flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances and priorities Preferred Qualifications While not required, the following preferred qualifications are highly desirable: A master's degree in English, Education, or a related field Specialized training or certification in areas such as reading instruction, writing workshop, or English as a Second Language Experience working with diverse student populations, including English language learners and students with special needs Knowledge of technology integration and digital literacy, with the ability to effectively incorporate technology into instruction Experience with project-based learning, differentiated instruction, and other innovative teaching methods Skills and Competencies To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following skills and competencies: Strong subject matter knowledge in English Language Arts, including literature, grammar, and composition Excellent instructional design skills, with the ability to create engaging and effective lesson plans Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, parents, and colleagues Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with the flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances and priorities Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities Ability to use technology effectively, including learning management systems, educational software, and other digital tools Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits At Peoria Unified School District, we are committed to supporting the ongoing growth and development of our teachers.
