Job Summary The Modern Languages and Literature Department at Gonzaga University invites applications for a 3/4-time non-tenure-track, fixed-term Lecturer in French language, civilization, and literature or film for the fall 2023-spring 2024 academic year. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching a range of undergraduate French courses, including lower division language classes, transition courses, and upper division seminars. The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to Gonzaga's Jesuit, Catholic, and humanistic identity and mission, as well as a passion for promoting social justice, diversity, and global engagement. Key Responsibilities Teach an 18-credit annual course load across the breadth of the French program curriculum, including beginning and intermediate language courses, introductory-level upper-division courses, and specialized topics based on the candidate's areas of expertise Demonstrate excellence in reflective, effective, and inclusive teaching of undergraduate French courses Support and collaborate with the French Program coordinator in student recruitment and program development initiatives Contribute to the development of a diverse and inclusive learning environment that fosters academic excellence and social responsibility Participate in departmental meetings, workshops, and other activities that promote the growth and development of the French program Essential Qualifications To be considered for this position, candidates must possess the following essential qualifications: Masters in French or a closely related field with an open field of specialization in Language Acquisition, Language Pedagogy, Cultural Studies, Film Studies, or Francophone Literature Evidence of effective and reflective college-level teaching in an undergraduate French program Evidence of French and English near-native/native proficiency Evidence of inclusive, equity- and diversity-minded teaching practices Desired Qualifications While not required, the following desired qualifications will be considered an asset: Ph.D. in French or a closely related field Experience in teaching French language, literature, and culture at the undergraduate level Knowledge of language teaching methodologies and technologies Experience in developing and implementing inclusive and diversity-minded curricula Strong communication and interpersonal skills Skills and Competencies To succeed in this role, candidates must possess the following skills and competencies: Strong knowledge of French language, literature, and culture Excellent teaching and communication skills Ability to work effectively in a team environment Strong organizational and time management skills Commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the classroom and beyond Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits As a Lecturer in International Relations and Modern Languages at Gonzaga University, you will have access to a range of career growth opportunities and learning benefits, including: Professional development workshops and training sessions Opportunities for research and publication Collaboration with colleagues from diverse disciplines and departments Access to state-of-the-art language teaching technologies and resources A supportive and inclusive work environment that fosters academic excellence and social responsibility Work Environment and Company Culture Gonzaga University is committed to providing a work environment that is inclusive, diverse, and supportive of all employees.
