Narrative Designer

Location: Remote Salary Range: Commensurate with Experience & Skills Role Description We’re looking for a Narrative Designer to join our team with a primary focus on writing and narrative design for our current project. In this role, you’ll be responsible for developing and implementing story, dialogue, and narrative content, while collaborating closely with the broader design team to ensure that narrative supports gameplay, pacing, and player experience. While this role emphasizes writing, it is firmly rooted in game design—requiring hands-on work in Unreal Engine 5, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and a strong understanding of how narrative functions within a shipped game. Responsibilities • Develop and maintain the game’s world building, including setting, tone, themes, and narrative consistency • Design and write story, dialogue, characters, and narrative content that supports the game’s systems and player experience • Collaborate closely with the broader team to align narrative with gameplay and production needs • Participate in design discussions and provide narrative perspective on systems, features, and player flow • Implement and iterate on narrative content directly in Unreal Engine 5, using existing tools and workflows • Iterate on content based on playtests, feedback, and production constraints • Assist with voice-over recording sessions, including script preparation, line tracking, and in-session support • Maintain clear narrative documentation and ensure consistency across in-game content Our Ideal Candidate… • 3+ years of professional experience in game development as a designer, writer, or narrative-focused role • Experience contributing to multiple shipped game titles • Strong writing skills with a solid understanding of interactive storytelling and game narrative • Experience working with Unreal Engine 5 in a development environment • Comfortable working directly in a game engine to implement and maintain content • Enjoys working on small, cross-disciplinary teams from early prototyping through production • Understands that writing for games is iterative and shaped by gameplay, constraints, and collaboration • Communicates clearly, takes feedback well, and can balance creative goals with production realities • Plays and enjoys a wide variety of games and pays attention to how narrative is delivered through play Bonus Points For… • Experience with branching dialogue, systemic narrative, or narrative-driven gameplay systems • Prior experience supporting voice-over pipelines and recording sessions • Experience working on live games or post-launch narrative content To Apply Qualified candidates should send an email with a resume, cover letter, and portfolio/reel.
