Remote Full-time
Remote Front-End Web Developer - Eleos - USA - work from home jobCompany: EleosJob description: About usEleos Technologies is a growing 12-year-old company building communication software for truck drivers and field workers. We're helping a diverse mix of customers, from mom and pop operations to thousand-truck fleets, improve how they communicate with their employees by tackling information overload, reducing phone calls, and eliminating obsolete technologies. As we help fleets develop better tools, we aspire to be known for our innovation, reliability, and ability to make a difference for them and their drivers. Our engineering team has been 100% distributed since day one. This means we're tooled up to handle product, architectural, technical, and ops work all from home or remote. You won't miss out of office conversations, and you won't have to learn to drive a telepresence robot. We began life as a bootstrapped startup, which allowed us to focus on building products our customers love. Today, we're part of the Knight-Swift family, which has allowed us to keep our focus and the freedom to build the best products we can for the transportation industry. We offer robust healthcare (dental, medical, vision), paid time off, and a generous equipment budget. About the roleOur app is more than the usual “CRUD and chat”: in addition to industry-leading truck navigation and planning tools, we've got some advanced algorithms for identifying the best and safest vehicle route, analyzing shipping locations to improve fleet performance, and visualizing the history of a trip in a clear and actionable way. We have one web app that's built as a single-page app, and the other as a more traditional backend-driven app with some JavaScript here and there. You'll be working on both as needed, with a bias towards the former. You'd be joining a new development team that is focused on building out features to solve specific business problems identified by one of our largest customers, but also get to see those features applied to our entire customer base. You'll have a direct impact on how this team operates and builds out new features while also getting the benefit of joining an established company and working within a mature product and code base. As our third frontend-focused engineer, you'll have a chance to shape the growth of our customer-facing tools, from UX design to the library choices underneath it all.Since we're a small team, you'll also have opportunities to review and work on our web backend, should you wish to do so. On your first day, you'll hit the ground running working with our other engineering teams to deliver features within our core product to get up to speed with how we work. You will work closely with engineers that wrote the first line of code within our product, and also have a chance to influence how things should be done going forward (you'll know things we don't!). About youWe're looking for an engineer who can help maintain, evolve, and improve our web apps, which are used every day by back-office users managing fleets, billing, and making their respective businesses run smoothly. You should be comfortable working with React and web debugging tools such as the network and performance inspectors in Chrome or Firefox. You should have an excellent grasp on JavaScript or ClojureScript, but it's fine if you need to pick up the other one after you join the team. You should feel comfortable, and have a proven record of, seeing a product feature through from ideation to delivery to the end user, and reading telemetry data to understand user behavior around a change. We'd like someone who's both ready to teach others (you'll know things we don't!) and learn from co-workers in a fun, productive, and respectful environment. While fully remote, this role is US-only: you must be legally able to work in (and be physically located in) the United States. Key Skills• 5+ years professional experience building or maintaining production quality single-page web apps• The ability to quickly convey ideas, opinions, and technical details in written English• Able to work 8-5 Eastern Standard Time ± 3 hours, to facilitate realtime collaboration when neededNot requirements, but things to mention if they apply to you• Experience with the Om ClojureScript library• TypeScript (or Flow) experience• Automated web testing with Playwright, headless Chrome, or similar tools, and snapshot comparison testing• Image processing, GIS/mapping, fleet management, or computer vision experienceTechnologyWe take a “reasoned opinions, weakly held” approach to tools, and resist letting those tools define our identity. That said, we've had positive experiences with Clojure, React, and deno. On the backend, we've got Elixir, Erlang, some Clojure, and some Rails all running in AWS. If this sounds like a fun challenge and your kind of environment, get in touch and let's talk!
