SolidWorks Designer / Detailer - Architectural & Structural Metalwork (Remote, Contract) - Contract to Hire
We are an established architectural steel & aesthetic metal fabricator working on high-end landscape architecture, public space, and architectural metal projects. We’re looking for an experienced SolidWorks Detailer / Designer who understands real-world fabrication, not just modeling. This is not a conceptual design role. This is for someone who can produce clean, build-ready shop drawings that shops actually want to fabricate from. Scope of Work You will be responsible for producing accurate fabrication and shop drawings for custom architectural and landscape metal projects, including: Stairs, railings, and guards Shade structures, canopies, trellises Site furnishings and custom architectural metal elements Miscellaneous metals tied to landscape architecture and public spaces Key Responsibilities Create shop and fabrication drawings using SolidWorks Detail architectural & structural steel with fabrication intent Produce BOMs and material takeoffs Review architectural and structural drawings/specs for coordination Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and fabrication teams Revise drawings based on RFIs, redlines, and field conditions Maintain clear layer standards, naming conventions, and revision control Required Experience (Please Don’t Apply If You Don’t Meet These) 4+ years of hands-on steel detailing experience Advanced SolidWorks proficiency (parts, assemblies, drawings) Strong understanding of: Steel fabrication methods Weld symbols and callouts Shop practices and tolerances Ability to read and interpret architectural and structural drawings Proven ability to work independently and hit deadlines Strongly Preferred (Major Plus) Experience with architectural steel, landscape metals, or misc. metals Familiarity with AISC standards Prior work on public space, park, or landscape architecture projects Experience coordinating directly with fabrication shops How This Engagement Works Remote, contract-based role Ongoing work for the right person (not a one-off task) We value accuracy, clarity, and constructability over speed Clear scope, responsive PMs, and professional collaboration To Apply (Important) Please include: A brief summary of your steel detailing experience Confirmation of years using SolidWorks for fabrication drawings 2–4 sample drawings (PDFs are fine) showing architectural or misc. metal work Your hourly rate and availability (hours/week) Generic applications without samples will be ignored.
