Job Overview We are seeking a compassionate and skilled 988 Chat/Text Crisis Specialist to join our team, working on a part-time basis during weekend shifts (Friday to Sunday, 6 pm - 2:30 am CST). As a remote position, you will be part of a 24/7/365 mental health crisis/suicide prevention team, handling incoming chat and text messages through the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (NSPL), also known as 988. Your role will involve providing brief clinical screenings, risk assessments, and appropriate service linkage for individuals experiencing emotional distress, ensuring their safety and well-being. Key Responsibilities Provide telephonic or chat clinical screenings and risk assessments to individuals in crisis, assessing for suicide, safety, and identifying community resources to meet their needs. Respond to crisis contacts via the chat/text platform, conducting follow-up calls for individuals deemed moderate to high risk for suicide. Meet ethical and clinical standards in compliance with all accreditation requirements, actively participating in ongoing supervision, training, and team meetings. Assist in administrative tasks as needed, demonstrating high-level customer service skills and professional etiquette. Essential Qualifications To be successful in this role, you will need: A Bachelor's degree in Behavioral Science, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field, or certification as a Peer Recovery Specialist. Six months to one year of related crisis experience, with a strong understanding of suicide assessments and crisis intervention skills. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work in a virtual environment. Demonstrated knowledge and competency in providing service linkage and referrals for programs, services, and community resources. Preferred Qualifications While not essential, the following qualifications are desirable: Experience working in a trauma-informed organization, with a deep understanding of the principles and practices. Knowledge of mental health crisis/suicide prevention strategies and best practices. Familiarity with the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (NSPL) and 988 services.
