Strategic Initiatives & Execution Director

The Strategic Initiatives & Execution Director supports the Chief Innovation Ecosystem Officer (CIEO) by driving execution of cross-cutting strategic initiatives and providing guidance on critical projects and programs. This role coordinates work across the CIEO leadership portfolio, ensuring priorities are clearly defined, decisions are well prepared, and initiatives are completed on time, on budget, and aligned with organizational goals. The Director serves as a trusted advisor to the CIEO, providing consultative support on project implementation, operational management, and relationship development, while acting as a liaison to cross-functional teams to ensure collaboration, accountability, and successful outcomes. Principal Duties & Responsibilities: • Drive strategic initiatives for the Chief Innovation Ecosystem Officer (CIEO) and manage the leadership operating cadence by coordinating work across four direct-report functions, developing workplans and recommendations, organizing agendas and decision needs, tracking actions and progress, and elevating issues requiring executive decision or course correction. • Act as trusted delegate to the CIEO by representing the office in select meetings, documenting decisions, and ensuring commitments are carried out, including coverage for travel. • Maintain portfolio-level budget and resource visibility by working with Finance function leaders to track spending, forecasts, and decision-relevant tradeoffs; prepare recommendations for executive review. • Lead synthesis and alignment of internal communications by consolidating inputs, drafting concise executive-level summaries, and preparing approved communications on CIEO priorities for cross-functional and organizational audiences. • Support the statewide innovation ecosystem strategy by organizing and refining strategy documents, coordinating with team leaders to gather and synthesize feedback, and ensuring all components are complete, accurate, and clearly presented for executive review. • Strengthen execution discipline across the portfolio by developing tools, templates, and processes that support clarity, accountability, and follow-through across initiatives. • Coordinate with key stakeholders by organizing working sessions, managing logistics, and summarizing outcomes and next steps. • Collaborate across team leaders and staff to support cross-functional efforts and ensure shared initiatives stay on track. View the full position description HERE This position is based in Detroit and may work a hybrid schedule with a minimum of 2 days of in-office work required.Education: This position requires a bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university in Business, Finance, Communication or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience: Five years of related experience. Experience in functions or sectors relevant to Michigan's innovation ecosystem (e.g., academia, entrepreneurship, small business, strategic industry sectors) preferred.
